As many of you have heard by now, the Belk Dining Hall at Camp Grimes was destroyed by a fire 2 weeks ago. While it may take weeks for a cause to be determined, we are grateful that no one was injured in the blaze. We are also grateful for the more than 35 firefighters from at least 8 departments across McDowell County who responded so quickly and prevented heavier losses.

As Council Program Director and Camp Director for our Summer Camp program at Camp Grimes, I'd like to thank you for registering to come to Camp Grimes in 2017. Many of you are asking whether or not we will be having a summer camp program at Grimes next summer. I can unequivocally assure you that we WILL!

Less than 24 hours after the fire, we put together a committee to begin making plans for not only rebuilding our dining hall, but also exploring contingency dining hall plans for next summer. I can promise you that we will have a temporary dining facility or program that more than meets your expectations. If you have suggestions or ideas, we'd welcome your input. After all, Camp Grimes is Your Camp.

Camp Grimes has provided a wonderful summer camping experience to thousands of youth and adults over the last 40 years. Everyone has fond memories and our dining hall was steeped in tradition. While we have lost an iconic figure of our camp, we will always have the memories that the Belk Dining Hall, named for John M. Belk in 1976, provided us. Now, we have the opportunity to create new memories.

I hope that you will honor your commitment and joins in beginning new traditions at Camp Grimes next Summer. If I can help answer any questions, please feel free to reach out to me. We've been dealt a tough blow but together we can come out on the other side and be a better council for it. Won't you please join us?
