Sunday June 21, 2009 will be the first day of Summer Camp at Camp Grimes. The staff has been working hard to get ready for you. We have not had any health problem from our staff. So at this point, Camp Grimes is Flu free. The Swine Flu Virus is highly contagious and has been found throughout the United States. As normal, the Camp Grimes staff has been getting ready by cleaning and sanitizing the camp. Because of the flu virus, we have used a little more hot water and sanitizer to clean as best we can. The camp is ready for you to have a health stay, but we need your help. Please read the following because any one can pick up the virus and bring it to camp.
BEFORE COMING TO CAMP, parents and scout leaders should assess if the camper has come in contact with anyone with the virus. On Sunday before you load for camp, please check scouts and leaders to determine if a camper has a higher than normal temperature. Any scout or leader who has a high temperature, fatigue, ongoing body aches and general weakness should not come to camp. The individual should seek medical attention at home.
ARRIVING AT CAMP, each scout and leader will go through an individual health screening. The screens will review the camper's medical history, insure medical forms are complete and review and observe the campers current health. Anyone, who shows signs of flu or other illness, will be sent to the health officer for a more detailed review. If a scout or leader is found to have signs of the flu, the full troop will be separated from other campers. If one person is sick at the start of the trip to camp, many may be infected on the ride to camp. Anyone suspected of having the flu will need to return home.
WHILE AT CAMP, scouts and leaders can do many things to prevent sickness. Campers should cover their mouth and nose when they cough or sneeze. Wash your hands after leaving the restroom and before entering the dining hall. The soap used at Camp Grimes is sanitizer soap. For this year, there will be additional bottles of hand sanitizer as you enter the dining hall. Please use them before entering. Wash your hands many other times during the day. Each person should daily assess their self and others for signs of the flu. Anyone showing signs should go directly to the Health Lodge.
The camp staff will work hard to keep all areas clean and sanitized. Each scout and leader should do what they can to help
